Create a legend view with Type Symbols

But first of all, we need to look back at a blog post from May 2019, where we talked about two new features we released; Type Symbols and Type Drawings. You can read the post here.

With Type Symbols we have the possibility to create a legend view for active or pre-selected view(s) showing all types of selected categories in a view or sheet.

The result could look something like this:

After we released this tool we got feedback from several users about the possibility that a tag could read the “Compound Layers Width“ parameter we created in Type Symbols. We put the idea into the ideation portal to see if there was a greater interest for the feature. You can visit the Ideation portal here to vote and add your own ideas and wishes.

It turned out that the feedback was relevant for more Naviate users, and the idea was added to the release plan for December 2020. You can read all about the latest release news for Naviate Architecture here.

The new improvement was released and named Compound Layer Tagging.

What is Compound Layer Tagging?

What does this mean? You now have the option to get the layers of elements from Structure Assembly Material dialog and show them in a tag. The layer information is stored in a parameter on the elements that can be updated after you have made changes on the layers of the elements.

With Compound Layer Tagging, you can:

  • Easily write the layer data to a parameter and use in a tag
  • With a simple and quick workflow update the tag data after element modification
  • Select any multi-line or text parameter to which you want to write the layer data
